Burro Days Celebrates Fairplay's Mining Past
Annually Since 1949
Burro Days is always held during the last weekend in July, the 68th Annual Burro Days will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 28-30, 2017.
Back in the day when mountain men ruled and gold was King, the pack burro was the prospector's best friend. Rough and tough Americans sought their fortunes in the Rocky Mountains with a trusted burro at their side. These sturdy little animals carried tools and provisions.
BURRO DAYS is a three-day event that attracts over 10,000 people to Fairplay, Colorado. The weekend is packed with parades, llama, burro and pack dog races as well as outhouse races, music, dancing, vendor booths, BBQ, pancake breakfast and Cowboy Church Services.
THE REAL ATTRACTION IS THE BURRO RACE HELD ON SUNDAY.
OLD FASHIONED BBQ & BARN DANCE is on Saturday July 29, 2017 this is a ticketed event; choose both BBQ and Dance or Dance only. Dinner starts at 5pm; dancing starts at 6:30; tickets sold at the American Legion Hall at sixth and Clark in Fairplay at the door, Music performed by Randy and Carole Barnes. Traditional dance forms for all ages, including big set, mixers, folk, and square. This is a boot-scooting' fun time for a good cause - Rocky Mountain Rural Health.
