The CUMBRES AND TOLTEC SCENIC RAILROAD'S coal-fired steam engine of takes you into the unspoiled West, through steep mountain canyons high desert, and lush meadows. You'll zig zag 64-miles of track between Chama, New Mexico and Antonito, Colorado.

Open your eyes to spectacular and rare western scenery that can only be viewed from our train's unique route.

Ride in the Victorian elegance of our Parlor Car and Deluxe Tourist Car or choose the budget-friendly Coach Car. Either way, a delicious buffet lunch is included. Trains depart daily from Chama, NM and Antonito, CO. A luxury motor coach chauffeurs you back to your starting point at the end of the ride. The season runs from early July through late October.

2022 SCHEDULE for the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad

Trains depart daily from July 1st through October 23rd from both the Antonito, Colorado and the Chama, New Mexico depots.

14 Special Event Trains -- The Perfect Blend of Grit and Glory

In 2022 Special Events Trains include the monthly 168 Brunch Special, the 168 Dinner Special, the Geology Train, which will run twice this year, the Botany (Wildflower) train, and the annual 4th of July fireworks celebration train. Plus, the 25 passenger GALLOPING GOOSE NO. 5 will be running from September 27-October 2, 2022. The Galloping Goose NO. 5 spends most of the year in Dolores Colorado, where there is a museum dedicated to its' work horse days transporting ore, lumber, livestock, mail and people in and out of the remote parts of the San Juan Mountains; tickets go fast!

August 7, 2022: Wildflower/Botany Train -- A fun and educational seminar-style train excursion that will point out the indigenous wildflowers in full bloom along route. This train makes multiple stops allowing expert foresters and botanists to serve as the Field Guides throughout the route. Special informative guidebooks will also be provided for this amazing train ride. NEW in 2022 there's a planned stop at Cumbres Pass Summit where there will be flower and plant exhibits to experience up close and personal!

August 20, 2022: 168 Dinner Train -- Our all NEW dinner excursion led by the Historic #168 Steam Locomotive. Travel between Antonito, Colorado and Cumbres Pass and experience the original west just as it was from our museum-quality historic train! Featuring all original Denver and Rio Grande 19th century equipment, travel in Victorian Splendor experiencing the authentic West. Enjoy dinner at Historic Osier Station. September 17, 2022: Geology Train #2: For all Geologists from the newly-interested to the practiced professional. Experiencing the incredible overviews of the Rio Grande Rift, the eruptive evidence of the San Juan Volcanic Field, the Precambrian core of the Tusas Mountains, recent glacial deposits, and snapshots of the Jurassic, will not be enough. This special train will stop at many outcroppings and rail cuts along the right of way, so passengers may mingle, marvel, and collect photographs.
