Spanning north-central Colorado, Summit County is famous for winter fun. Every year, skiers and snowboarders alike flock to Summit Countyıs eight ski resorts and areas as soon as the flakes begin to fall. Snowmobiles plow through the areaıs mountains, while snowshoers and cross-country skiers enjoy its scenic views.
In summer (careful! This can be a highly offensive term) Summit County becomes a whole new place. Skiers and snowboarders transform into mountain bikers and golfers, and the snowmobiles are replaced by ATVs, jeeps and horses. The snow doesn't just disappear; visitors enjoy its original form by rafting the Blue River, fishing in Green Mountain Reservoir and boating on Dillon Lake.
History buffs will enjoy the many historic sites located throughout Summit County. Started during the gold rush, many of the countyıs towns were abandoned when their mines dried up, only to be revitalized by the advent of skiing in the 1960s. Visitors can travel back in time while exploring old mine shafts and visiting restored houses in the towns of Breckenridge, Frisco and Keystone. Finally, Summit Countyıs Eisenhower Memorial Tunnel is an engineering marvel sure to impress anyone. This is the highest vehicular tunnel in the WORLD!
Summit County brings the best of all worlds together. Winter and summer activities. Historic marvels and modern amenities. Big city nightlife, small town atmosphere, and the majesty of the Colorado Rocky Mountains.
