The only federally chartered mining museum in the USA, the NMHFM is the showcase of American Mining. More than 20,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space displays one of the most comprehensive mining memorabilia, equipment and mineral collections in North America. As a monument to the memory of the men and women who pioneered the discovery, development and processing of our nation's natural resources, we guarantee a fascinating experience for the whole family.
"Nowhere is the mining industry, past and present, better displayed than at the National Mining Hall of Fame & Museum in Leadville, Colorado." - Persimmon Hill National Cowboy Hall of Fame & Western Heritage Center.
THE MUSEUM
The National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum is located in the famous 1880's silver mining boomtown of Leadville, Colorado, the highest incorporated city in the USA. The area is rich in history, including ghost towns and remnants of former mining glory. Leadville itself was the heart of a large silver boom, and historic characters such as Horace and Elizabeth "Baby Doe" Tabor, Doc Holiday, the "unsinkable" Molly Brown and others, once called it home. The town retains many of the original Victorian buildings from that era, and the surrounding Rocky Mountain scenery is picturesque to say the least.
The Museum boasts a variety of exhibit catered to all ages. Highlights includes life-size, historic replica mines, extensive gem and mineral collections, scale models of mines, towns and railroads, interactive exhibits, educational displays, dioramas, and many fine pieces of artwork from world renown artists.
HALL OF FAME
The NMHFM is proud to be the home of the National Mining Hall of Fame where men and woman who have made indelible contributions to the extraction industry are honored and their stories told. Inductees are selected from the full list of candidates and are then inducted at the annual banquet. Their engraved photographs and biographies are placed in the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum.
