San Juan Backcountry was established in the 1990s. San Juan is one of the oldest touring Company's in Colorado. The San Juan area around Silverton and Durango, Colorado is America's most pristine wilderness!

We are excited to offer guided tours into the San Juan Mountain's Backcountry. Whether you choose an ATV, UTV, or 4x4, our experienced guides will safely lead you through spectacular scenery and show you Colorado's history.

3-DAY ATV ADVENTURE TOUR

For 3 nights and 3 days, San Juan Backcountry will furnish an adventure on ATVs (single or double) or UTVs (side-by-side, 2-6 people) through some of the most remote and beautiful country in America. Everything will be furnished (except you); machines, rain gear, food, water, lodging. Come prepared to see great landscapes, rugged mountain terrain, waterfalls, old mines, old mills, tram towers, ghost towns, wildflowers (in season), and often times wildlife. The roads we will tour are old Ute Indian trails, mining roads, old supply routes, all from the 1800s until now.

Our experienced guides will tell you of the history of the San Juan area, and stop for pictures, snacks, and talks along the way. Each guide is experienced with the trails and history. Each day will be filled with excitement and a full day of riding. The sights and views you will see are unbelievable and breathtaking.

Rates start at $1,995 for the first person, each additional passenger is $950. Trips are offered in June and August.

TRAILHEAD DROPS and GUIDED HIKES

We offer guided day hikes into some of the most awesome country of the San Juan Mountains. Visit historical mills, mines and buildings surrounding Silverton, Colorado. It's amazing to hike over a mountain top and see a huge historic building of yesteryear sitting where it has sat for over a hundred years!

ALL TRIPS ARE 2 PERSON MINIMUM. May through Mid-October.

Highland Mary Lakes Trail: $50 per person.

Stony Colorado Trail Drop: $60 per person.

Molas Pass Trail Drop: $20 per person.

Bear Town Trail Drop: $120 per person.

Segment 25, Bolan Pass: $120 per person.

We drive you up in our 4-wheel drive vehicle and drop you at The Colorado Trail.

GUIDED LUNCH TOURS

We begin at our San Juan Backcountry Headquarters. All tours start at 11am and return at 2pm and are guided. The Town Tour includes guided tours of the Old Hundred Mine, Silverton's Mining Museum, and the 1902 Jail. The San Juan Tours explore Silverton's backcountry and allows you to be a passenger in a Suburban or you and your family can rent and drive a UTV or ATV.

BOX LUNCH INCLUDES: Large sandwich, potato chips, candy bar, bottled water, and a souvenir "string backpack." Sandwich choices are: Ham, roast beef, turkey or vegetarian.

GUIDED HISTORICAL TOWN TOUR: Come join San Juan Backcountry with a most fascinating historical tour of Silverton, Colorado. We go through town, your guide will acquaint you with the historical sites along the way up to Cunningham Gulch and the Old Hundred Gold Mine.

Rates: Adults: $95; Children (ages 4-11): $70.

GUIDED SAN JUAN TOUR: Explore the back roads of this gorgeous backcountry and take pictures of waterfalls, wildlife, and your family grinning from ear-to-ear. Smell the wildflowers and take in all the beauty that will surround you.

Guided Suburban Rates: Ride in an open top Suburban which allows you to standup and take in the beauty along the way. Adults: $80; Children (Ages 4-11): $60.

Drive an ATV or UTV Rates: Allows you to do the driving. ATV rentals Adults: $180 (single rider); $230 (2 riders). UTV Rates Range: $250-$450 depending on the number of people; max 6 people.

4X4 GUIDED TOURS

From 9,318 feet in Silverton, to over 13,000 feet! That's where we take you in the comfort of our open-topped suburbans. Let our professional drivers treat you to a day of spectacular scenery and history all rolled into one.

FULL DAY TOUR: Adult $150; Children (Ages 4-11) $90 (includes lunch)

4 HOUR CUSTOM TOUR: Adult $80; Children (Ages 4-11) $45

2 HOUR TOUR: Adult $60; Children (Ages 4-11) $40

2-1/2 HOUR EVENING TOUR: Adult $60; Children (Ages 4-11) $40

4X4 TOUR and TRAIN PACKAGE: Combine your Durango/Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad ride with a guided 4X4 tour of the historical tour of Silverton or a mine and Mill.

Package Rates: Depend greatly on the train ticket purchased and which add-on tour you pick. Adult train tickets start at $120; Children tickets start at $85. Tours range from $40 to $95. Call for Details.

JEEP RENTALS

There are over 700 miles of Jeep trails! As you drive, you will be traveling over old wagon roads and seeing ghost towns, mines, wildflowers and waterfalls.

The most popular routes are the Alpine Loop and the Ophir-Imogene Loop. We have maps. There are many routes to take and we will be happy to suggest the best options based on what you want to see and where you want to go.

Choose between hard and soft top; and, between automatic and stick shift. Our vehicles are inspected after every rental.

RENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Drivers must be 25 years old and have a valid driver's license and show proof of full coverage insurance. A credit card in the driver's name is required.

Rubicon Jeep Rental Rates

2-DOOR JEEP RENTAL: Half-Day $150; Full Day $200.

4-DOOR JEEP RENTAL: Half-Day $200; Full Day $250.

Pick up time: 8am; Return time: 5pm.

ATV and UTV GUIDED TOURS and RENTALS

San Juan Backcountry offers both Guided ATV and UTV Tours and Unguided ATV and UTV Rental. If you enjoy the outdoors, this is a great adventure!

Enjoy riding your own All-Terrain Vehicle while exploring the mines, ghost towns, smelling the wildflowers and taking in all the beauty around you, such as waterfalls and wildlife. Our customers come away loving the San Juan Backcountry and come back year after year!

INCLUDE WITH YOUR ATV AND UTV TOUR OR RENTAL: Full tank of gas, Helmet with face shield or goggles, instructions and safety tips for your ATV and UTV, and drop off/pickup at the trail of your choice.

RENTAL REQUIREMENTS: To operate an ATV and UTV you must be at least 16 years old with a driver's license.
