Bighorn Sheep Canyon | Royal Gorge | Overnight Trips

Family fun and adventure in Bighorn Sheep Canyon & the Royal Gorge on the Arkansas River. Located at Texas Creek on Highway 50 between Salida and Canon City. Great group and early booking discounts.

Vessels for Honor invites you, your family, and friends to be our guests this summer! We offer whitewater rafting expeditions along the Arkansas River in Colorado; most trips launch from our site at Texas Creek Junction near Canon City and travel through Bighorn Sheep Canyon or the Royal Gorge, offering some of the most spectacular scenery on the upper Arkansas.

Our guided tours range from one to six hours long (1/4 day to full day) and can be tailored to suit your individual taste for adventure. Trips run Monday through Saturday during the summer rafting season, from May 27 through August 12. We are a family-owned company ideally suited to accommodate small groups of up to 40 people who are interested in wholesome family fun, action, and adventure.

Our name, Vessels for Honor, comes from the Biblical passage found in 2 Timothy 2:21; It reflects the owner's passion for Jesus Christ and a commitment to integrity and excellence in all that we do."...be a vessel set apart and useful for honorable and noble purposes, consecrated and profitable to the Master, fit and ready for any good work."

Vessels for Honor is licensed in the State of Colorado. We have professionally-trained guides and carry liability insurance as required by the State. Member of the Arkansas River Outfitters Association.

    Bighorn Sheep Canyon:

This is family rafting at it's best! We begin the action with Texas Creek rapid. Some of the other rapids along the way include Maytag, Three Rocks, Five Points, Spike Buck, and Sharks Tooth. Between the whitewater, there is time to relax and enjoy the canyon and look for bighorn sheep and other wildlife. This trip is offered as a five mile, nine mile, or combined 14 mile excursion, allowing you to select the trip best suited to your group. All of our full day trips include a delicious riverside lunch. Minimum age is 5 years old, and child prices are for those 5-12 years old.

    1/4 day - Texas Creek Sampler (5 miles) Adult $27; Child $19

    Royal Gorge:

True adventure begins on this trip as the canyon narrows and the rock walls tower 1000 feet above the river. Not for the faint of heart, this trip will confront the infamous Class III to Class V rapids such as Sunshine Falls, Sledgehammer, Wall Slammer, and Boat Eater. The spectacular scenery combined with continuous whitewater will create an experience that will not be forgotten. The minimum age is 15 when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian; otherwise, all participants must be at least 18 years old. Previous Class III experience may be required.

    Overnight Trips:

Extend your adventure by participating in one of our overnight trips. After enjoying a late afternoon float through Bighorn Canyon, you can relax by the river while our guides treat you to a culinary delight. Spend the evening camping under the stars as the river lulls you to sleep. The next morning begins with a hearty breakfast, and we continue on for another 14 to 23 miles with many class III-IV rapids along the way.

A minimum of four people are required. Available Monday through Friday during June and July.
