Rio Chama New Mexico Things To Do

Northern New Mexico has the ideal climate for outdoors activities, fairs, and festivals. Mild, dry, and sunny from May through September, temperatures range from the upper 50s to the upper 70s. Mountain breezes will make you feel energized!

Chama is truly a hidden gem. The Village of Chama is right next to the Rio Chama River, a major tributary of the Rio Grande. Towering mountain peaks, scenic vistas, and deep gorges create impressions that will live in your memory – and photographs – forever.

Happy Campers

Real people tell their stories

The hosts were very pleasant, kind and helpful. This is the first park I’ve been able to open my windows at night to sleep with no noise! The campground is very quiet. We had a back-in site right by the river, (loved the babbling water sounds) and could also see the train every morning and evening as it departed and returned to the station. I think this is probably the best park at which we have stayed.

It was a nice little Park. Very clean and the owners are very friendly. It is right down by the river so our dogs went swimming every day. It’s got a fenced-in dog area also. It is a cool little town especially when the railroad is running.

Enjoyable and clean RV park. The staff is friendly. Each space has trees and scenery (lots of birds and squirrels). The dog park is amazing with trees, grass, and a dog house. There is easy access to the Rio Chama River. We have enjoyed our stay and hope to return one day.

Always have a great time camping here. The people are so accommodating and kind!

This is by far the nicest RV park we’ve visited on our travels. We made the mistake of only stopping for one night – this park is a destination itself. Extremely well maintained, very friendly staff, with a river right next to it and the Cumbres & Toltec train passes right by. Can’t be beat!

This park is absolutely charming. Lots of trees. Really nice people, both staff and guests. Walking distance to quaint downtown and train station. Quite a few regulars who come back every year. Welcoming and warm to us. Best dog park of any we have yet to experience.
