Beulah and the San Isabel Area, located in South Central Colorado, fit snug on the valley floor, in the foothills below the picturesque Wet Mountains. Local legend claims that this secluded valley became the favored hideout of a horse thief, Juan Mace. Located 25 miles southwest of Pueblo, this area is at an elevation of 6,500 feet. The San Isabel National Forest, an ideal place for picnicking, fishing and hiking, surrounds the area. The area is also home to Lake San Isabel, which is open year round and is stocked by the Colorado State Department of Wildlife.

Recreation in the surrounding San Isabel Forest includes numerous trails for summer hiking and biking that are ideal for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling in the winter. A trip up nearby Greenhorn Mountain, at 12,500 ft., offers a splendid view of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range. Another treasure hidden in the Wet Mountains is Bishop's Castle, built by Jim Bishop. The huge stone and iron castle, complete with a smoking dragon, is an intriguing side trip to the small town of nearby Rye.

Other area attractions include all the amenities of nearby Pueblo, such as the Colorado State Fair held there every August. The Arkansas River and Pueblo Reservoir offer everything for those who enjoy water sports, from fishing and sailing, to whitewater rafting and kayaking. Within 30 minutes of Beulah are golf courses and the Monarch Ski Area is two hours away, near the Continental Divide.

Beulah also hosts a variety of unique annual events. Arts and crafts shows, a 10K run, Yule Log Hunt, the "Beulahfest" and other small town celebrations will make your visit here memorable.

Also be sure to travel the new Frontier Pathways Scenic and Historic Byway that connects Rye/San Isabel, Westcliffe and Colorado City/Pueblo via Colorado Highways 165 and 96.
