Fishing in the Greater Antonito Area

The greater Antonito area is an excellent choice for fishing. No matter which river or reservoir you choose, no matter what time of year you're on the water, you will have something biting your line. Fish for Kokanee Salmon, Common Carp, Channel Catfish, Yellow Perch, Walleye, Northern Pike, and Trout: Rainbow, Brown, Brook, Native Cutthroat, Splake.

Please note: The water level rises and falls often in this area so boating may not be allowed depending on water levels; check water levels before you hitch up the boat.

Antonito Area Public River Fishing

Conejos River - Fish from the town of Platoro downstream to the confluence with the South Fork of the Conejos River. You can only fish with artificial flies and lures. You can only bag two Trout that are minimum 16 inches in length. Access is along County Road 250 and along the east side of the Platoro Reservoir.

Rio Grande River - This section of the river does not have Gold Medal fishing but there are other sections that do; you might be able to snag a Gold Medal fish since this is downstream from that area. There are various access points along Highway 160 between Monte Vista and Alamosa and also between Alamosa and the New Mexico border.

Other Mentionable Rivers:
Alamosa River
La Jara Creek
