Our 1894 depot, originally the Anaconda station, was relocated to Cripple Creek in 1968 and lovingly preserved. Today, it provides a gateway for your family into Colorado's gold-rush past. Your adventure begins at our historic 1894 Midland Depot in Cripple Creek, on our open-air train ride featuring panoramic mountain vistas, fascinating mining history, and a taste of the Old West around every curve.

As our iron horse chugs south along the former Midland Terminal Narrow Gauge Railway route, you'll pass reconstructed trestles, the old Midland Terminal wye. Look for the remnants of once-booming gold mines as you wind through each curve. The route winds over a reconstructed trestle at Poverty Gulch and ends near the abandoned mining camp of Anaconda before returning to Cripple Creek. Along the way, your guide shares stories of the gold-rush era (1890-1904), when railroads were the lifeblood of the Cripple Creek & Victor Mining District.

MEET OUR IRON HORSES: The railroad operates a fleet of colorful, coal-fired steam locomotives. Our rare 15-ton iron horse is a 0-4-4-0 Mallet, which echoes the sights, sounds, and spirit of Colorado's mining heyday.

GIFT SHOP: Our gift shop offers souvenirs, T-shirts, books, railroad-themed items, and Thomas the Tank Engine merchandise.
